VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
From internships to tutoring to college application support for our youth, GK offers a variety of volunteer opportunities year-round. Our established network of compassionate individual and corporate volunteers ensure that our youth have the support and resources they need to graduate from high school and go on to college or the workplace.

Below are some examples of volunteer and event support roles offered through Global Kids programs.
Annual Teen Battle Chef Cooking Competition
Every year, Global Kids students from Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn middle schools go head-to-head in a city-wide cooking competition as part of our Teen Battle Chef program. This event is the culmination of a year-long series of weekly cooking workshops aiming to teach students the fundamentals of cooking so that they can create healthy meals at home.
-
CULINARY COMPETITION JUDGE: Serve on our panel of judges and evaluate students’ creations on a set of criteria including color, technique, flavor, creativity, and the incorporation of healthy, inexpensive and readily available ingredients. Please note that a limited number of spots are available for this volunteer role!
-
EVENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS: Support the smooth operation of the program and assist both students and chef mentors during cooking sessions and events.
College and Career Readiness Mentors & Panelists
Corporate volunteers can also support Global Kids Leaders learning about and navigating the college application process by hosting or participating in a College and Career Readiness panel or workshop. Workshops and career panels may be held at our Manhattan headquarters, or in person at various Global Kids school sites throughout the five boroughs and Washington, D.C.
Career Day at Corporate Offices
Hosting a Career Day at your offices will allow Global Kids Leaders from our middle & high schools to meet with your company’s staff, learn about careers in your professional sector (finance, technology, foreign affairs, etc.), and engage in hands on activities and dialogue to further their understanding of careers in your industry. Employees facilitating the career day as volunteers will share their personal experiences going through college and selecting their career path.
Activities for the day will be supported by Global Kids staff, and include:
-
Welcome and ice breaker
-
Overview of your company/organization
-
Workspace tour (if applicable)
-
Career panel with employees from your company/organization
-
Hands-on activity & lunch
Annual Youth Conference
Each year, a team of Global Kids youth design an educational, youth-led conference around a topic of local and global importance that they themselves have chosen. At conferences in both Washington, DC and New York City, youth work together to identify and secure plenary and guest speakers, organize performances, and design and facilitate peer-education workshops for hundreds of attendees.
Pre-Conference Support: Support our GK high school youth leader Conference Planners as they prepare for the youth conference by ensuring they have everything they need for conference day.
Bag Packing Event: assemble materials for conference day
Donate Conference Materials: make an in-kind donation by providing materials needed for youth conference attendees’ swag bags, such as branded pens, notebooks, totes, snacks, water bottles, etc.
Volunteer Roles: Sign up for one or more volunteer shifts. There are multiple ways to get involved!
