I began attending Friday Leadership eight years ago and my worldview changed dramatically. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. Global Kids changed my life. I not only felt hopeful about the future of the world, but I felt empowered to make change.

Global Kids' flagship program, the Power of Citizenry (POC) Leadership Program develops a team of over 500 NYC youth leaders (GK Leaders) each year who acquire leadership skills, an understanding of global issues, and receive exposure to higher education and career opportunities. They receive training in communication, research and group facilitation.

Each year, the GK Leaders have a positive impact on over 2,500 of their peers by organizing conferences, creating media projects, leading workshops in classrooms, developing public awareness campaigns, and speaking to audiences of young people and adults, among other activities. Through these program components, Power of Citizenry addresses the need for young people to possess leadership skills and an understanding of complex global issues - such as globalization, international conflict, and immigration - necessary to succeed in the 21 st century workplace and participate in the shaping of international and public policies.

In recent years, the demand for the program has grown significantly. To meet this demand, we have undertaken a number of initiatives to extend our reach, including: expanding our programming and partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations; developing one of the leading youth digital media programs, and providing greater opportunities for young people to meet with leaders at businesses and global institutions. Impressively, more than 90% of the seniors in the program graduate from high school each year.
