Education Dive – Global Kids Receives Grant from Best Buy Foundation For $10,000

Global Kids is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from the Best Buy Foundation. The funds will support Global Kids’ Mobile Makerspace Project, which will be critical for the expansion of its groundbreaking Digital Learning and Leadership program.

Univision 41 – Iniciativa “Se Habla USA” Bushwick, Brooklyn

15 Global Kids students from International High School at Union Square were invited to participate in the unveiling of the mural in Bushwick, Brooklyn as part of Univision’s Se Habla USA initiative. Artist Juliana Correa Gonzalez was also present at the unveiling and talked with the students about the inspiration for her artwork.

NYN Media – Why Homeless Kids Can’t Make It to School On Time

Global Kids raised $30,000 at an Oct. 13 walkathon at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens. The proceeds will benefit the nonprofit’s college and career readiness program, which includes college tours, financial aid, and internship opportunities. About 210 people took part in the event, which followed a 3.1-mile course through the World’s Fair landmarks in the park, according to an Oct. 16 press release.

NY City Guide – Things to Do in Queens This Month – October 2018

What if you can run, walk, or stroller push all the way to Unisphere while helping youth reach their unlimited potential? Global Kids, the nonprofit educational organization that works with students in public schools throughout NYC exposing them to global human rights issues, hosts its 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk/Push on Saturday, October 13th at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Open to individuals of all ages, participants can register on our website through the general process through October 13th. Kids 18 & under are FREE! Prizes will be awarded to the top runner, top fundraiser, best team spirit and jogging stroller divisions. Approximately 300 students, alumni, staff, sponsors, and corporate partners join us for a fun, family-friendly day. Proceeds from the event benefit Global Kids’ College & Career Readiness Program which provide students with one-on-one support as they prepare for life after high school. Through the program, students can also use various resources such as college tours, financial aid assistance, job training, internship opportunities, scholarships, and more.

Queens Gazette – Programs Supported By Greener NYC Initiative Outlined

The Greener NYC initiative saw a $510,000 increase in the Fiscal Year 2019 budget, giving each Council Member $70,000 for sustainability projects, green job training, and environmental education. Constantinides was joined at the Urban Upbound office at the Astoria Houses that day by Bishop Mitchell Taylor, co-founder and CEO of Urban Upbound, and the groups he supports: the Alley Pond Environmental Center, Global Kids, Serious Fun After School, NY Sun Works, and BioBus.
