Mark your calendars and join us for a day of service in support of our youth on Monday, January 19th, 2026. Global Kids will be hosting a special Career Panel & Mentorship Volunteer Event at our headquarters in Manhattan. We are in need of passionate professionals to serve as volunteer panelists to answer youth questions about college and career pathways, and to speak a bit about what you do and how you got there, including any twists and turns along the way!

*Required for volunteer participation with Global Kids, Inc.; please also inquire with erin.mitchell@globalkids.org to confirm your availability to volunteer for the Monday, January 19th, 2026 MLK Day Job Readiness Panel at GK HQ in Manhattan.

Honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy:

Promoting Economic Justice and Workforce Readiness through Volunteer Service & Leadership in Your Community

MLK understood that economic justice is not just about workforce readiness, but also policy and structural reform. Part of the work we’re doing to honor his legacy is to equip young people with the skills and resources to succeed in a professional environment. By participating in volunteer service with Global Kids and lending your time, your expertise, and your experiences, you are helping to honor and carry out Dr. King’s mission and enduring legacy.

Schedule:

11:00 AM - 11:15 AM - Volunteers and students arrive and sign in

11:15-11:30AM - Welcome and day overview.

11:30-12:00 PM - Pizza + Volunteer Introductions

12:00-12:15 PM - Ice Breaker

12:15 - 1:00 PM - Interview Presentation

1:00 - 1:45 PM -  Mock Interviews

1:45 - 2:00 PM - Closing, Next Steps, Photo Opp!

How to Prepare as a Volunteer/Panelist:

Be prepared to answer the following as you introduce yourself on the panel.

  • Name

  • Current Job and Organization

  • College Attended

  • Most memorable interview question they’ve ever asked or been asked

  • Share briefly about an activist you admire

Interview Activity

After introductions, a brief icebreaker, and a presentation about how to achieve success in profession interview settings, led by GK staff, we will break out into smaller groups for a mock interview activity supported by volunteers, who will be placed with each group. Through mock interviews and group discussion about the activity, volunteers will have the opportunity to share anecdotes and discuss some of the things they have learned about the interviewing process throughout their own academic and professional journeys.

Most of us will probably agree that interviewing can be one of the most stressful, intimidating, and crucial parts of securing employment in the workforce and advancing in one’s academic and/or professional career, especially when first entering the workforce. This activity will give students the opportunity to practice essential interview skills and build confidence in these types of settings, plus gain valuable, real-world knowledge from you!

This is a fantastic opportunity to give back! Helping young people navigate their future careers is so important. It reminds me of the strategic thinking involved in solving Pips NYT; every move counts! Sharing real-world experiences, the wins and the unexpected detours, can be incredibly valuable. I'd encourage anyone with a passion for mentorship to consider volunteering for Global Kids on January 19th, 2026. Let's empower the next generation!
