The Girls Health Leadership Program "is an unmistakable success with vast potential for replication."

Independent Evaluators Bernard S. Gorman and Ellen Cooney

The Girls' Health Leadership Program develops and supports a cohort of young women from Crown and Prospect Heights, Brooklyn who are knowledgeable about health issues critical to women locally and globally, highly skilled in communication and group facilitation, and able to use these skills to educate their peers and encourage preventive health behaviors in the youth community.

Within a safe space, the program educates participants about the social, emotional, and academic factors that lead teen girls to make self-destructive decisions and empowers young women to make positive choices for themselves and, more importantly, serve as role models, peer educators, and resources for their peers.

The program provides an opportunity for participants to understand the local and global consequences of these issues and gain skills in communication, organization, and multimedia production that they use to train their peers about community health issues.

The program has received a highly positive individual evaluation by Bernard S. Gorman, Ph.D., and Ellen Cooney, M.A., who called the Girls' Health Leadership Program "an unmistakable success with vast potential for replication."
