I began attending Friday Leadership eight years ago and my worldview changed dramatically. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. Global Kids changed my life. I not only felt hopeful about the future of the world, but I felt empowered to make change.

The Citywide Leadership component of the Power of Citizenry Leadership Program provides youth from throughout New York City with an opportunity to participate in Global Kids activities on a weekly basis. Any high school student in the city is welcome to attend Citywide Leadership sessions, which take place on Friday afternoons at 4pm at Global Kids' Main Office at 137 East 25th Street (between 3rd and Lexington Avenue). Citywide is a great way for students without a GK program in their school to get involved and meet youth from other schools around the city.

Citywide workshops follow the same structure as our school-based leadership programs and provide opportunities for youth to learn about issues of importance to them, gain leadership skills, and become passionate about world issues. Working with Global Kids staff members, youth develop a rich understanding of how international issues affect their lives and communities, as well as how many of the problems they face are the same problems confronting others around the world.

Activities include role-plays, games, small and large group dialogues, debates, roundtables, digital literacy training and forums with guest speakers, in which youth address such issues as globalization, international and international conflict, health issues, ethnic tensions, and development issues, among others.

Citywide participants are also provided with opportunities to participate in many other Global Kids activities, including leadership retreats, programs at the Council on Foreign Relations, educational trips, and the Annual Youth Conference.

If you or a student you know would like to become involved, please visit the Get Involved section.
