On November 20, 2009, Global Kids hosted its first-ever Alumni Career Panel as part of Global Kids' Citywide Leadership program. Four Global Kids’ alumni volunteered their time to talk with current students about their careers and fields of study. The featured panelists (pictured above) were:

• Eugene Martin, who works for the United States Federal Court of Appeals as a Case Manager. Eugene has played an active role in several high profile cases, and corresponded with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor frequently prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court.
• Nicole Adams, who works as Development Officer at Millennium Promise, an innovative international development organization that has developed a diverse coalition of private sector investors to encourage social entrepreneurship among families in rural Africa.
• Keeshan Manning, who graduated form NYU in 2009 with a Master’s in Social Work and is currently working at the Jewish Child Care Association for Bridges to Health. Keeshan provides clinical intervention and services to emotionally disturbed children who are in foster care.
• Fahim Farazi, currently a freshman at New York University majoring in History and on the pre-med track. Fahim was recently chosen to attend the Global Peace Summit organized by Three Dot Dash, to be held in March 2010.

Students had the opportunity to listen to panelists speak about their educational and career paths during the first half of the program, then spoke with panelists one-on-one to ask specific questions during the latter half.

During the event, Eugene Martin noted how Global Kids had helped shape skills he uses in his job. “I learned compassion goes a long way when you consider other people’s cultures and other peoples’ backgrounds and how they are brought up... In my career I deal with people who are struggling in the legal system... people who are trying to get out of jail, get out of prison. Sometimes they can be irate, sometimes they can yell… even when you try to help them, they see you as an enemy. I learned how to deal with these different types of personalities and have an open mind through Global Kids’ leadership programs." Fahim Farazi also reflected upon the universality of Global Kids’ principles. "I’m still using ‘one mic and safe space’ because these are things that work everywhere."
