Please see the application attached, which is due on Friday, November 16th. Global Kids (GK) is extremely excited to launch its first ever Global Kids Educators Fellowship. The fellowship is an individual award program for educational leaders: teachers, CBO school-based staff, counselors and other school staff working in New York City public schools. This seven-month program will support individuals to gain professional and leadership skills based on Global Kids’ methodology and, by using those skills, develop and launch an innovative project that addresses critical issues at their schools, such as youth leadership/engagement, parent involvement, school culture or climate, student-teacher relationships, etc. In addition to inspiring NYC youth to become successful students, as well as global and community leaders, Global Kids is invested in the professional development efforts for educators. Global Kids, in partnership with the NYC Asset Lab Project, a project of the YMCA of Greater NY, has created the Global Kids Educators Fellowship to supporting NYC public schools and students by assisting some of the frontrunner or “activist” teachers and school staff. The Fellowship will assist educators who consistently go above and beyond their duties and jobs to make their schools better learning environments. All Fellows will receive a $2,000 dollar stipend for their participation in the full seven months of the program. Fellows will be challenged to facilitate the infusion of GK methodology and Assets principles and practices in their own schools. They will receive support, training and technical assistance to implement their project during the spring semester of the school year. The Global Kids Educators Fellowship will ground the Developmental Assets framework in everyday youth development and educational justice issues. Fellows will learn about Developmental Assets– the relationships, support and experiences young people need to thrive, and how they empower youth and subsequently increase their engagement in school. Fellows will also have the opportunity to exchange with experts in the education and youth development fields, and to interact, share ideas and explore the power of Asset building as it relates to their schools.
